Maxi dress to maxi skirt

A few months ago I saw this Maxi dress at Target. It was so bizarre looking. The top is so strange, and the ruffles hang weird and the back is even weirder.  However, it was on clearance for under $5, and I really liked the striped material.  The stripes are slightly different than in this picture below, but other than that it is the same dress.

I had been looking for some striped jersey fabric for quite a while now to make a maxi skirt.  However, the cheapest jersey knit I could find was $9 a yard and I knew I needed about 2.5 yards. So, I thought to myself, "self, just get this dress and cut it off to make a skirt." That's exactly what I did. I couldn't be more excited about the resulting maxi skirt!!  I simply folded up the ruffles on the top of the dress. The ruffles are attached at the neck line. Then cut straight across from armpit to armpit. Then I folded it over and sewed straight across creating a waist band. So easy, seriously.
