Custom Pillows

A good friend of mine called and asked me if I would be willing to make some custom pillows for her friends furniture store. I was so flattered.  She travels all around the world collecting exotic fabric from amazing places.
So cool right! I'm not going to lie. I was a little intimidated to sew on such amazing fabric. And if I made a mistake it's not like I could run to the local fabric store to replace it.
However it was really fun and cool to do. There is tons and tons of fabric and this is just a small sample of all that there was.
I just thought I'd give you a taste of all that I've been up to lately. There will be tons of other pictures of pillows in my blogging future (apparently pillows are a popular request right now) so I hope you don't get to sick of it :)

Mocha Skirt

I have now done these lace skirts for 3 different weddings. Such a great idea to do a skirt and top instead of the traditional dress.
The latest wedding was a caramel colored under layer with a mocha lace top cover.  So gorgeous. Honestly when she told me what she wanted I was having a hard time catching the vision. It wasn't until the skirts were made that I realized that they really are pretty cool. In fact I liked them so much I made myself one :) It's a fun different take on the traditional brown pencil skirt.

These are now available in my Etsy store here.

Maxi Skirt with yoga waistband

A while back I promised to give you a tutorial on the fabric waistband maxi skirt. I finally got around to taking pictures :). You will need 2 yards of jersey fabric or some type of stretchy fabric. Next, You will take your measurments from waist to floor (or however long you want it to be) and around your waist or where ever you chose to wear your skirts. Next you will cut out your skirt using the directions from this tutorial.  Now that that's done you are going to cut out your waistband.  All you are going to do is divide your waist measurements in half and cut out 2 strips of fabric. For example if you have a 29 inch waist you will measure 14.5 and measure across then make it however wide you want it.  Remember you are going to be folding it in half and then in half again once you wear it so I'd aim on the wide side. I did it 20 inches long and 14.5 wide. Now that you have 2 rectangles pin down both ends and sew.  Also now is the time you will sew the length of your skirt.

Next fold your waistband in half with the wrong sides together and then with the right sides together pin it to the skirt like this picture shows.

Then sew the waistband to the skirt. Then flip it up and throw it on.  Like I said before once I'm wearing it I like to fold the waistband over once. So cute and comfortable.

No one needs to know that you feel like you are wearing jammies :)

Make yourself one. Or, if you want to buy one from my etsy store you can find it here.
